Getting Ready for Miami Art Week: Why We’ll Never Share Our Top Emerging Artists

With Miami Art Week just around the corner, art enthusiasts and collectors are getting ready for one of the biggest art world events of the year. Amid the frenzy, many want to know: Which emerging artists should I be following? Who is about to make a breakthrough? Where can I find the best deals?

But… we’re not going to answer those questions! Why? Because collecting art isn’t about following trends or chasing popular names – it’s about curating a collection that genuinely reflects your tastes, values, and aesthetic vision. Each collector is unique, with different budgets, tastes, goals – and wall space! Art collections shouldn’t be cookie-cutter or trendy; they should be deeply personal.

That is precisely the approach the Art Market Liaison team takes to building collections. The common “Top Artists to Watch” list can lead everyone to focus on the same artists, chasing hype instead of developing a meaningful collection. Art is not about fitting in; it’s about finding pieces that resonate with you and inspire you over time.

Our top advice for Miami Art Week is to slow down and define your own aesthetic. Take the time to understand what you want out of your collection. Instead of searching for the next big artist, think about your collecting style and choose the fairs that best suit your vision (and your budget). We promise: this reflective process will help you approach Miami Art Week (or any art fair) with a sense of purpose. And as Miami natives, we’re proud to share a breakdown of Miami Art Week’s main fairs and our best advice on what each has to offer:

For Blue-Chip Artists and High-End Collectors: Art Basel Miami Beach

Established in 2002, Art Basel Miami Beach (December 5 – 8) has grown into a powerhouse event, bringing together top galleries from around the world, and truly transforming Miami’s art scene. The fair is now firmly the crown jewel of Miami Art Week, showcasing works by established, blue-chip artists at premium prices. This fair is ideal for seasoned collectors who are interested in investment-grade art and well-versed in the global art market.

For Emerging Artists: Untitled Art and NADA

If you’re interested in discovering emerging talent and prefer more accessible price points, Untitled Art and NADA are for you. These mid-market fairs are great for discovering up-and-coming artists, connecting with gallery owners, and beginning your journey as a contemporary art collector. But plan your visits strategically: Untitled Art is held on the sands of South Beach, while NADA is located at Ice Palace Studios in downtown Miami, so best done separately – and on different days.  Both fairs will be held from December 4-8.

For Iconic, Affordable Pieces: Art Miami

Art Miami (December 3-8) provides a selection of more affordable works from well-known artists, like prints and drawings, rather than high-profile originals. This fair is approachable for new collectors looking to start their journey with pieces by celebrated artists at accessible prices.

For Design Lovers: Design Miami

Design Miami (December 5-9) brings together exquisite design pieces, including furniture, lighting, even jewelry. This fair is an immersive experience where you can take in contemporary design objects from an art-centric perspective. Intimate, carefully curated and, to be expected, beautifully designed, Design Miami is the perfect choice for anyone who wants to appreciate the best in contemporary design. (Secretly, this is probably our favorite fair. You’ll find us here when we need an escape from it all!)

Whether you’re navigating Miami Art Week in search of masterpieces or there to discover new cutting-edge contemporary art, it’s a time when the light shines on the city’s art scene in its full glory.
