Unprecedented return for master Impressionist work

A remarkable collection had a particularly covetable piece: Mary Cassatt's "A Goodnight Hug" from 1880. This striking work on paper had excellent provenance, condition and prestigious exhibitions, including the official 1881 Impressionist exhibition in Paris. Art Market Liaison's efforts completely eliminated the full seller's fees and secured its key placement in Sotheby's Impressionist Evening Sale - a rare benefit for an American Impressionist artist.

This allowed the work to be cross-promoted to multiple categories of collectors and drew extraordinary interest, which lead to to a  staggering sale at $4.5 million.

Iconic pieces sold far above high estimate

Longtime collectors based between New York and L.A. enjoyed several successful sales in NY, Hong Kong and online, where numerous works sold above their high estimates, due to Art Market Liaison's strategic placement and negotiation for incredible sale perks. The client’s art was prominently displayed as a collection in the pre-sale exhibition at Phillips and images of their works were featured on banners outside the auction house facing Park Avenue.

Art Market Liaison increased the value of the client's collection by 328 percent above their original estimates, and reduced total seller's fees by 90 percent.

A diverse strategy for an eclectic collection

A collector of Modern and contemporary art in Miami had a broad based collection across varying price points and styles, and placing the works at a single venue was neither advantageous nor available. Art Market Liaison researched the collection in its entirety, strategically placing the works in both live and online auctions, and negotiated favorable terms with each venue. The works sold in 23 different sales at Christie's, Phillips and Paddle8, where Art Market Liaison managed the whole process from start to sold.

Art Market Liaison's efforts increased the collection's value by 72 percent above the original estimates, while minimizing the client's fees by 53 percent.

Laura A. S. Raiffe is a charismatic art professional, move maker and Miami native. She has developed a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the art world through various successful professional positions, unwavering passion and strong relationships throughout the industry. 

In her role as the Regional Account Manager & Professional Regional Representative for Christie’s Trusts, Estates and Wealth Management division in the Southeast, Laura learned the intricacies of the auction business by working at a prominent global firm. She worked closely with leading collectors, advisors, institutions, and auction specialists on a local and global scale throughout fine art, decorative arts and luxury, while serving as a trusted liaison for buying, selling and appraisals. Previously, she worked as the Assistant Director of the Fredric Snitzer Gallery in Wynwood, orchestrating over 18 exhibitions and events, while exhibiting at numerous notable art fairs and creating strong ties within the primary market.

With a degree in Art History and Art Journalism from the University of Maryland, American University in Rome and the Art Radar Institute in Hong Kong, experience in developing an international art investment fund, national and international public speaking engagements as well as her successful entrepreneurial venture LASR Art, Laura truly understands the art world from multiple seats at the table. To advance her commitment to the community, Laura sits on the Board of Directors of Locust Projects and the JCS Alliance, and is an active member of Perez Art Museum Miami, the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami and the Funding Arts Network. Laura A. S. Raiffe utilizes her multifaceted art professional skills and deep understanding of the nuanced art market to best serve her clients.
