Marc Chagall, Les Amoureux, 1928

Gouache, watercolor and wax crayons on paper depicting two figures floating, by iconic French artist Marc Chagall.

An iconic painting by French artist Marc Chagall, created during a blissful period in his life with his wife, Bella, and their young child, reflects his discovery of the vibrant landscapes of the Seine Valley and the South of France. The region’s lush colors and distinctive forms greatly influenced Chagall’s work during this time.
Recently, the painting’s owners sought the expertise of Art Market Liaison to navigate the complexities of the secondary market. The team was tasked with conducting in-depth research to establish the painting’s provenance and authenticity. This involved tracing the painting’s ownership history and gathering essential documentation.
The artwork had originally been acquired at auction in the 1980s after residing for an extended period in a prestigious private collection. However, public records on the piece were scarce. To bridge this gap, Art Market Liaison collaborated with the Chagall Foundation, uncovering key details about the painting’s journey through time.
